Nx12 Studio Telephone Interface

The new Nx12 is our most powerful performer, setting new standards for studio telephone interface systems. It gives you the latest hybrid technology and audio processing by Omnia for the cleanest, most consistent call quality ever.

It has four advanced digital hybrids, each with its own AGC, noise gate, and caller override dynamics using carefully-tuned DSP algorithms. Each also includes DDEQ, a sophisticated multi-band equalizer, which analyzes and adjusts received audio spectral characteristics so that calls sound smooth and consistent despite today’s wide variety of phone sets and connection paths. Updated for today’s realities, the Nx12’s hybrids incorporate special echo cancellation for tricky VoIP and cellular calls. Unique to Telos, the Nx12 has an adaptive function that reduces the possibility for feedback in open speaker applications

You can choose to use either analog or ISDN telephone lines by ordering the Nx12 with appropriate Telco interface modules. It can connect to as many as 12 analog POTS telephone lines or up to 6 ISDN BRI lines (which would provide 12 caller channels). A digital switch matrix inside the Nx12 connects the lines to hybrids.

The Nx12 works with all Telos third-generation control surfaces including the Desktop Director, Call Controller and Console Director. Talent and producers benefit from the unique Telos features that make their lives easier, such as our exclusive Status Symbol visual call management icons that clearly show line and caller status.

The Nx12's Ethernet network connection supports call screener software such as Telos’ Assistant Producer, which may be used locally or over any IP network. It also supports Livewire audio-over-IP technology.

With its four hybrids, two Program-on-Hold inputs, and two sets of analog I/O, the Nx12 can serve one studio with one or two phone faders and high-quality conferencing for up to four callers. (More are possible, but without individual hybrids and processing.) Or it can be used in a two-studio mode to handle the telephone needs for two stations simultaneously. With its four inputs and outputs, the optional AES interface module offers direct access to the individual hybrids.

Nx12 Front Nx12 Back

Direct access to the individual hybrids is also possible when the Nx12 is used within a Livewire-equipped studio, since the Ethernet connection can support a large number of channels. An Axia Element console can control the Nx12 over the network with either the Call Control Module for the traditional Telos two-column operation style or Europhone Modules for a fader-per-hybrid operating style. (It is also possible to access the four hybrids via a Livewire Node.)

In a Livewire networked system, one Ethernet RJ-45 connects all necessary signals: up to four hybrid inputs, four hybrid outputs, two Program-on-Hold inputs, and all needed control.

You can connect up to eight control surfaces, with the Nx12 directly powering as many as four. Optional external power supplies provide power for long cable runs or additional controllers. (The Extended Desktop Director counts as a single device, but consumes the power of two.)
