A BRIEF HISTORY OF TELOS SYSTEMS |

Telos Systems was founded in 1985 by Steve Church, a former talk show host and radio group engineer. Steve designed the world's first digital telephone-to-broadcast interface system, which significantly improved the technical quality of call-in segments using digital signal processor (DSP) technology. In fact, the Telos 10 telephone hybrid was the very first commercial radio product to employ DSP technology. At the same time, Frank Foti, station chief at New York's WHTZ-FM, was building proprietary audio processors for use by his own stations and a few others. These conquered so many markets that in 1988 he formed Cutting Edge Technologies, offering some of the world's most advanced audio processors. In 1992, Cutting Edge merged with Telos Systems and was later renamed Omnia, after its highly successful family of DSP-based audio processors. Since then, Telos and Omnia have led the way in developing innovative DSP-based tools for broadcasters. Telos digital telephone hybrids are standard equipment for such demanding broadcasters as Premiere Radio Networks and XM Satellite Radio. The ground-breaking Zephyr family of ISDN Transceivers, the first device capable of transmitting 20kHz stereo audio on a single dial-up ISDN phone line, is the most popular codec ever, with over 6000 units in the field worldwide. The Omnia family of digital audio processors for FM, AM and Webcasters have become the standard of loudness, clarity and digital purity by which others are judged. Omnia processors are preferred by leading broadcasters worldwide, including the British Broadcasting Corporation, Swedish Radio, Skyrock, WHTZ/New York, and KIIS-FM/Los Angeles. Today, Telos Systems and Omnia are the world's leading providers of broadcast telephony solutions and state-of-the-art digital broadcast audio processors. The company performs advanced research and development in the areas of digital signal processing, MPEG, telecommunications and computer networking. Telos remains committed to designing innovative products to help broadcasters get the most out of new technologies as they are developed.; Telos Systems is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and also operates a number of satellite offices around the world. |
